How many tacos can you eat in one hour?
This is one of life’s most persistent questions. It was a Wednesday in the not too distant past when I was asked this question. You see, the Wednesday lunch special at the local pub was “4 tacos for $1.” It’s almost comical that they didn’t see me and JimmyJames coming…
JimmyJames threw down the gauntlet and I responded. The ground rules:
- One hour time limit
- Each taco must be loaded - meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato AND salsa
- No puking; you blow chow, you’re OUT
It was a tough hour. Here’s how I fared:
Eighteen and three-quarters tacos. At that point, I was perilously close to violating Rule 3, so I capitulated the contest to my challenger.
While I achieved a personal best (my previous record had been sixteen tacos), I did not emerge victorious. Although I have admitted it to him privately, I’ve never publicly acknowleged JimmyJames and his feat on that fine day:
JimmyJames consumed TWENTY whole tacos in one hour, making him the taco speed eating CHAMPION!!
Congratulations JimmyJames - you earned it. On a side note, I think that was the last time the pub offered the “4 tacos for $1” lunch special.
